Much of Gargoyles' plot revolved around these out-of-time creatures becoming accustomed to their new world, allying with a local police officer named Elisa Maza and fighting against Xanatos' nefarious plots. Originally defenders of a Scottish castle in the year 994, the gargoyles were frozen and resurrected in 1994, only to find themselves in the middle of Manhattan atop the skyscraper of billionaire David Xanatos.
